Answer the Call: Serve & Share Christ in Southern WV

Disaster Relief Opportunities – Get Involved

FBCW is actively working to support flood relief efforts in McDowell and surrounding counties. As more concrete plans develop, we will share ways to get involved. For now, we have two key opportunities:

Volunteer Opportunities in McDowell & Williamson

We are partnering with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and Samaritan’s Purse for day-trip and overnight volunteer opportunities. Volunteers must be 14+ years old (under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or youth leader).

McDowell County – Southern Baptist Disaster Relief

    • Dates: Saturday, March 22 & Saturday, March 29

    • Meeting Time/Location: 8 AM (Specific location TBD)

    • What to Bring: Lunch, gloves, rubber boots, and a change of clothes (tools and drinks provided)

    • Volunteers will be placed with Southern Baptist Disaster Relief team leaders for service projects in McDowell County.

Williamson (Mingo County) – Samaritan’s Purse

    • Dates: Saturday, March 22 & Saturday, March 29

    • Overnight/multiday opportunities available from now until March 29

    • Meeting Time/Location: 8:30 AM in Williamson for day trips

    • What to Bring: Lunch, rubber boots, and a change of clothes (tools and drinks provided)

    • Volunteers will be placed with Samaritan’s Purse team leaders for service projects in Williamson and Matewan.

Overnight Accommodations: Volunteers staying overnight will be housed at Williamson First Baptist Church, where a shower trailer is available.

    Sign Up:

If you or your church group are interested, email disasterrelief@wvbc.org with the contact information for your group leader. If your church would like to volunteer on a weekday instead of a Saturday, please reach out to see if arrangements can be made.

    Why This Matters

Our communities in Southern WV need our help—not just physically, but spiritually. Every service opportunity is also a chance to share the love of Christ with homeowners in need. Please pray for these communities, share this opportunity with your church, and respond as God leads.

    Ways to Provide Financial Assistance:

    • Mail a Check: West Virginia Baptist Convention, PO Box 1019, Parkersburg, WV 26102
